Earth plaster workshop – 8-13 July
Building with Straw, Earth , Wood and Dung
Earth plaster is one of the easiest plastering to learn and use. Almost every local clayey earth can be used to create a healthy surface that will regulate temperature and humidity in your home.
During these 5 days, you will learn how to prepare and apply earth plaster on different surfaces (natural materials and/or conventional materials) and you will learn some tricks that will allow you to prepare and apply your own plasters back home. To be able to get experience large surface of plaster will be done for the maintenance of the houses of TezekEvleri.
Moreover, through presentation and hand-on exercises, you will leran how to determine the suitability of earth for plastering and how to test your mix. Different additives will be presented and tested to show your their properties.
The workshop will last 5 days. The workshop time will be divided between theoritical lessons (1h per day) to understand the background of the work and practical work (5h per day) to be able to experiment. Evenings will be free with activities (movies, discussion, social activities) proposed on the farm. As the workshop is short we fully recommend you to arrive on time on the Monday.

Gündönümü Farm Hosting Condition:
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be provided by Gündönümü Farm. During the breaks, tea, coffe and milk will be served as well as snacks. If you have any allergy, please let us know in advance.
Toilet and bathroom
You will find compost toilets and showers on the camp site
For reasons of security, we can unfortunately not host anybody less of 18 years old.
Unfortunately, you will not find any open internet on the farm.
For the security and the health of the cow and the farm team, it is forbidden to go on the farm area. We kindly ask you not to disturb the wellbeing of the animals.
What you should bring:
- Old/working clothes that can get dirty
- working shoes or at least closed shoes (no sandlas and open shoes)
- a notebook,
- thermos or water bottle
- your gears if you stay on the camp area
- your good mood

Betul Ergun is an architect and builder specialized in plastering. She has been involved in various workshops and construction projects across Turkey, including rocket stove building. She aims at working primarily with natural materials. She was a primary actor of the Tezekevleri project on which she worked over four months.
Matthieu Pedergnana is an architect and builder. Actually finishing a PhD in METU, he learnt how to build with natural building in different workshops in Europe. He has taught natural construction and ecological architecture in several places in Turkey. He is working now as a consultant for TezekEvleri project.
Aysun and Mehmet Sökmen will be our hosts on the Gündönümü dairy farm. They are on a transition phase from industrial to natural via permacultural principles and holistic management. Their new project called “8bin100” (8100) is about developing a healthy environment where a group of people can live together by combining complementary activities. The work done during our workshop will help show that such a project is possible.
